Assemblage 'Box with found objects' (drawer from inside old Army chest).
This piece is about many of my feelings and experiences, ranging from having moved to the USA as a teen, and enduring prejudice for being "brown" and the pressure I felt from my family to "fit in to the new culture they had brought me to (not by my choice)" yet remain "true to my heritage" ---confusing, painful times.
(Unfortunately, as of late... with immigration problems at an all time high--we are beginning to see racism and prejudice - division again coming into our homes and communities). This assemblage also alludes to the strict religion my parents converted to when we moved to the USA and the effect I believe it had for a time in my psyche; to my 'pseudo-marriage' when I was too young to have entered into such a "union" and the emotional abuse I suffered while 'in it'......and more!
A chaotic assemblage--- but quite therapeutic!
